Management Team
Chief Executive Officer:
Dr Carl Barratt has been the Managing Director of Monica since its incorporation and has 15 years experience of developing high-tech products and managing projects for both multi-national and start-up electronics companies. In addition to substantive industrial experience, Carl's research focused on internet-based telemedicine and wearable medical devices, a vital aspect of the future for fECG monitoring and healthcare in general.
Chief Technical Officer:
Dr Jean François Pieri has been the Technical Director of Monica Healthcare since its incorporation and received a First Class honours degree in Electronic Engineering at 'Institut National des Sciences Appliquees' in Lyon, France and completed a PhD in 2 years in fECG monitoring at The University of Nottingham in 1999, developing the Care2000 fetal recorder. Since leaving Nottingham, Jean François has been employed by Thales. He was a lead software and systems engineer, managing large projects including the development of an X-ray flat panel for the radiological imaging industry.
Chief Marketing Officer:
Dr Terence Martin has considerable experience and contacts in medical device markets, including posts as Marketing Director with Sonicaid Ltd, Business Director with Oxford Medical Ltd and Business Development Manager for GE Medical Perinatal Business (EU & Middle East). Terence will guide Monica's market strategy and develop the distribution channels.
Chief Research Officer:
Professor Barrie Hayes-Gill is one of the original inventors of the abdominal fECG technology at Monica and has been highly proactive in obtaining funding to explore its commercial potential. Professor Hayes-Gill initially worked in industry as a Senior Engineer at Texas Instruments, AEI semiconductor devices and Marconi Electronic Devices specialising in the design and manufacture of high volume integrated circuits for medical instrumentation and telecommunication applications. Following this, he joined The University of Nottingham where he has explored his research interests in biomedical electronics and integrated circuit design, returning to industry whenever possible to keep up to date with the latest innovations in industry (including a recent spell with Sony Semiconductor). Professor Hayes-Gill has published over 200 papers, holds twelve patents on medical electronic devices and has managed grants of over €5 Million.

Chairman:
Dr Paul Harper has over 30 years' experience in the life sciences industry covering both drug development and medical devices. Paul has served as Chief Executive of Cambridge Antibody Technology Limited, and Provensis Limited. He has also served as Corporate Development Director of Unipath Limited, then the medical diagnostics business of Unilever PLC, and as Director of Research and Development for Johnson & Johnson Limited. Formerly head of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy for Glaxo PLC, Paul has a PhD in Molecular Virology and is the author of over 50 publications.

Non-executive:
Steve Jones (FCMA) has over 15 years board level experience in a variety of finance, commercial and general management roles. His early career was in the automotive, logistics and business sevice sectors. Since 2002 he has been working with a variety of SMEs in different sectors, and is also on the board of Cellaura Technologies Ltd, Food and Drug Analytical Services Ltd and Regentec Ltd.
Non-executive Director:
David Gough is an entrepreneur specialising in biomedical and other technology-based businesses. In the last ten years he has been the founder or co-founder of six companies one of which (Vectura Group plc) is now listed on the main market of London Stock Exchange. As well as representing the Lachesis Fund on the board of Monica Healthcare, David is also Chief Executive of Equinox Pharma, non-executive Chairman of BioAstral and a director of CellAura Technologies, VariDose and Sports Dynamics. He is also an advisor to three investors - NetScientific Limited, the Lachesis Fund and ETCapital Limited and is a long-term contributor to "Ignite" the University of Cambridge, Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning annual summer school.
Non-executive Director:
Bruce Venning has almost 20 years experience in scientific sales and marketing with Biotech Instruments, Uniscience, Biometra and Whatman. In 1995 he co-founded Phoretix International Ltd. Following the merger of Phoretix with Nonlinear Dynamics Ltd, a software development company specialising in image analysis for electrophoresis applications, he became Sales & Marketing Director, helping to grow the company in the global market. In 2003 Bruce returned to academia as the Commercial Manager in Research Innovation Services at the University of Nottingham, responsible for spin out companies and the university's consultancy business.
