Dr Carl Barratt
Chief Executive Officer
Dr Carl Barratt has been the Managing Director of Monica since its incorporation and has 15 years experience of developing high-tech products and managing projects for both multi-national and start-up electronics companies.
In addition to substantive industrial experience, Carl's research focused on internet-based telemedicine and wearable medical devices, a vital aspect of the future for fECG monitoring and healthcare in general.
Dr Jean-Francois Pieri
Chief Technical Officer
Dr Jean-François Piéri has been the Technical Director of Monica Healthcare since its incorporation. He received a First Class honours degree in Electronic Engineering at 'Institut National des Sciences Appliquées' in Lyon, France and completed a PhD in 2 years in fECG monitoring at The University of Nottingham in 1999, developing the Care2000 ambulatory fetal recorder.
Before joining Monica Healthcare, Jean-François has been employed by Thales. He was a lead software and systems engineer, managing large projects including the development of an X-ray flat panel for the radiological imaging industry.
Professor Barrie Hayes-Gill
Professor Barrie Hayes-Gill is one of the original inventors of the abdominal fECG technology at Monica and has been highly proactive in obtaining funding to explore its commercial potential. Professor Hayes-Gill initially worked in industry as a Senior Engineer at Texas Instruments, AEI semiconductor devices and Marconi Electronic Devices specialising in the design and manufacture of high volume integrated circuits for medical instrumentation and telecommunication applications.
Following this, he joined The University of Nottingham where he has explored his research interests in biomedical electronics and integrated circuit design, returning to industry whenever possible to keep up to date with the latest innovations in industry (including a spell with Sony Semiconductor). Professor Hayes-Gill has published over 250 papers, holds thirteen patents on medical electronic devices and has managed grants of approximately €10 Million.
Chief Operations Officer
David Naylor joined the Monica team as their Operations and Quality Manager. David is a Chartered Engineer with over 20 years of Operational and Quality management experience at Director level within the electrical and electronics industry.
During his career, David has worked in many specialised industry sectors (Aerospace, Military, UK Rail) and brings experience in global supply chain management to Monica.
Global Product Manager
James Bushby, has managed Monica's international distribution network since 2008, introducing Monica to new markets within the BRIC countries. James has extensive experience in category management and sales, working for Global companies such as Boots and Mars.
A degree in Physiology and Pharmacology combined with successful sales of adult cardiac solutions from GE, Welch Allyn and Respironics, provides James with high level of expertise and product knowledge to support Monica growing customer base.
Amrija Lavrentjeviene experienced in sales order processing, purchasing, stock control, goods in and supplier management. Amrija worked for 12 years for Intersurgical, an ISO13485 company.
She provided a total service to an international customer base including export documentation, marketing and territory support. Amrija originally trained as a teacher and is fluent in English, Russian, Lithuanian and Polish.
Karnie Bhogal RGN RM, is a UK-registered Nurse and Midwife who joined the Monica Team in 2008. Prior to joining the Monica team she had worked on abdominal fetal ECG monitoring as a research Midwife for Nottingham University for two years during the evolution of the product.
She has also worked as a Health Promotion Specialist in public health. Her role at Monica healthcare involves training, and supporting clinicians and distributors as well clinical user input to new product development.
Bob qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG (Thomson McLintock) and worked for over 20 years’ in various senior financial roles for a large international market research company, including 6 years as Regional CFO. Following that, for the last 8 years he has operated as an independent specialist providing CFO services to early-stage businesses and undertaking financial due diligence work on VCT investments.
Bob has put in place and manages a robust financial control and reporting system and brings a high level of financial experience to the management team.
Kevin D'Silva's career has been in the life science products and the medical devices industries where he has been CEO and Chairman of several private and publically quoted companies. He is currently an NED of Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging Ltd (private) and Chairman of AI2 Ltd (private), Crystallon Ltd and Oxford Cryosystems Ltd (private), and a Director of Surface Transforms plc (public).
Through his consultancy partnership, Salusinvest LP, he is a board member of Metrasens Ltd (private) and Michelson Diagnostics Ltd (private) and advises a number of EU and US listed companies. He is a chemical engineer from Leeds University and has an MBA from Manchester Business School.
